A Comprehensive Guide: GATE 2024

In this comprehensive guide, we will provide you with all the essential information you need to know about the upcoming GATE 2024 examination, organized by the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The GATE 2024 registration form will be available from August 24 to September 29 (without late fee), and with a late fee, the GATE application form 2024 can be accessed until October 13. The GATE 2024 entrance exam is scheduled for February 3, 4, 10, & 11, 2024, covering 30 papers for admission to the MTech program at IITs. Graduates and final year candidates can also submit the GATE 2024 application form before the last date.


What is GATE Exam ?

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) stands as a pivotal examination, serving as the gateway to a multitude of academic and professional horizons. This comprehensive assessment paves the way for aspirants to secure coveted admissions to Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech), and direct PhD programs at esteemed institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) scattered across India.


However, GATE's influence transcends the academic realm. Beyond the hallowed halls of academia, it unlocks the doors to thriving public sector organizations (PSUs) and the dynamic realm of research. A plethora of esteemed PSUs and research organizations, including notable names like ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, HPCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BSNL, HPCL, NHPC, BARC, and DRDO, recognize and utilize GATE scores as a determining factor in their recruitment processes.


Operated as an All-India examination, GATE's reach extends across eight zones throughout the nation. The esteemed GATE Committee, comprising distinguished faculty members from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and seven other Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), orchestrates this examination on behalf of the National Coordinating Board, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development.

Eligibility Criteria

Aspiring candidates who are currently enrolled in their 3rd year or beyond of an undergraduate degree program, or have successfully graduated from a government-approved degree course in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, or Humanities, hold the eligibility to participate in the GATE 2024 examination.


Documents Required for Filling Online Application Form

  1. A high-quality photograph of the candidate, adhering to the specifications outlined in the Information Brochure.

  2. A high-quality signature image of the candidate, following the requirements specified in the Information Brochure.

  3. If applicable, a scanned PDF copy of the Category (SC/ST) certificate.

  4. If applicable, a scanned PDF copy of the PwD Certificate.

  5. If applicable, a scanned PDF copy of the Certificate of Dyslexia.

  6. A scanned PDF copy of a valid photo Identity document, such as Aadhar-UID (preferred), Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving License. The chosen photo ID should display the candidate's Name, Date of Birth, and a unique photo ID number. This original photo ID must be presented for verification at the examination hall.

GATE Papers

The examination papers will be presented in the English language. Every GATE 2024 paper is designed for a total of 100 marks, with a shared General Aptitude (GA) section accounting for 15 marks across all papers. The remaining 85 marks are dedicated to assessing the content outlined in the specific test paper syllabus.
